Education & Impact

Education is where every Tierra Viva community begins. A great school can shape where families choose to live, and a community designed around learning can open opportunity well beyond its own residents.

This page describes our educational ambition and the work we plan to do. In Santiago, the school concept and these programs are in development with educators and local partners.

Schools planned with the community

Each community is planned around an internationally oriented school. In Santiago, we are developing the school concept with experienced educators, prospective operators, families and local stakeholders. The work covers the learning approach, leadership and staffing, operating economics and access for families.

  • Learning quality

An internationally oriented education that prepares students to thrive locally and globally.

  • Great educators

Strong school leadership and continuous professional growth for teachers.

  • Access

Financial-assistance pathways that widen access for families.

  • Rooted in place

A school designed with families, educators and local stakeholders, and open to the wider community.

Learning that reaches beyond the school

We want Tierra Viva's educational contribution to extend beyond the families who live in the community. These are the areas of work we plan to develop.

  • Educator development

Professional development for teachers and school leaders, extending beyond the school's own staff to educators in the surrounding area.

  • Community learning

Learning programs for children, young people and adults, shaped with local partners around what the community needs.

  • Financial assistance

Support that widens access to the school, designed as part of its economics and funded deliberately rather than left to chance.

  • Local opportunity

Local hiring, enterprise space and partnerships that let more people take part in what the community creates.

How we will begin

Rather than arriving with a finished program, we will start small and build on what works.

  1. 1

    Listen

Begin with a community needs assessment alongside local partners.

  2. 2

    Partner

Build relationships with educators, schools, employers and community organizations.

  3. 3

    Pilot

Co-design a small learning pilot that responds to what we hear.

  4. 4

    Learn

Assess what the pilot achieves, then adapt and expand what works.

How we will know it is working

We plan to establish a baseline with local partners and assess progress against it. The measures will evolve as the programs and the community take shape.

  • Participation and access
  • Learning and wellbeing
  • Educator development
  • Local hiring and enterprise
  • Community use of shared spaces
  • Environmental performance

A foundation for public-benefit work

We are exploring a foundation to carry the work that benefits the wider community, such as financial assistance, educator development and community learning. It would have its own funding and governance, so that this work is accountable on its own terms.

Our aim is to establish institutions and governance strong enough to serve the community for the long term, including as ownership of individual assets changes over time.

Shape this work with us

We would like to hear from educators, school operators, researchers, funders and community organizations who share this ambition.
